INNOVATION DRIVES FASHION FORWARD

From Shiseido to Japanese Dessert Tea House, Multiple Japanese Consumer Goods Companies and Featured Brands to Participate in First CICP Expo in Hainan

February 27,2021

The first China International Consumer Products (CICP) Expo will be held at the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center between the 7th and 10th of May, 2021. This will be the first national exhibition focused on consumer products.

The layout of the exhibition is arranged by industry, of which there are five: fashion and lifestyle, jewelry, food and healthcare, travel, and integrated services.

Many Japanese companies appear on the exhibitor list, such as beauty giant Shiseido, chemical and cosmetics company Kao, Japan's largest duty-free retailer Laox (acquired by Suning Group in 2009), well-known skin care and health food brand FANCL, and famous electronic equipment manufacturer Omron.

Japan has long maintained close economic, trade and cultural ties with Hainan. In highly mature industries such as fragrances and cosmetics, high-end consumer goods, advanced manufacturing and finance, Japan fits well with the development focus of Hainan's free trade port.

Among the exhibitors, there is also a boutique brand group, Hejiangyoupin, co-founded by China and Japan. The group runs on the model of "market needs analysis from China and product selection by Japanese experts”, directly contracting with manufacturers throughout Japan in food and beverage, textiles, handicrafts, fashion and beauty, and other fields.

"There are numerous treasures from all over Japan. Some of them carry on centuries-old traditions of craftsmanship, some are closely aligned with regional industrial technology, and some are imbued with the relentless pursuit of craftsmanship, giving expression to true 'Japanese craftsmanship'. But the majority of them have not yet entered the Chinese market. Hejiangyoupin is a joint Sino-Japanese creation, and its goal is to present 100% Japan-made artisan goods to Chinese consumers". According to managing director Yuichi Hirayama, the Hainan Free Trade Port is a very important international platform, and Hejiangyoupin will make full use of it to showcase the charm and essence of Japanese-made products to Chinese consumers.

Hejiangyoupin offers both 2C and 2B business; that is, an online shopping mall for consumers, and commercial wholesale for enterprises. In this year's Expo, partners brought by Hejiangyoupin include: Kikunoi, a three-star Michelin restaurant and a classic representative of kaiseki cuisine; Horiguchi Kiriko, a cut glass brand; Japanese Department Store, a new concept specialty store; Imabari Towel; and JAPAN BLUE.
